Recently, Maplewood at Orange had the privilege of partnering with a local student to bring a very special project to life.
Grace Butler, an eighth grader at Amity Middle School-Orange, received a social studies assignment to reach out to an organization she cared about and pitch a meaningful tribute.
Grace knew about Maplewood at Orange from a student council trip earlier this year to deliver Valentine’s Day cards to residents. She was so moved by the care she witnessed that, when she received her assignment, she knew exactly who she wanted to honor. Inspired by fond memories of planting flowers with her grandmother, who now lives with dementia, Grace wrote a letter to Maplewood leadership proposing a custom garden box dedicated to the community’s hardworking associates.
On May 17, Emily Newhard and the Maplewood at Orange team helped Grace’s vision bloom. Grace, her classmates, and members of the Maplewood resident garden club gathered to build and plant a beautiful new garden box filled with flowers and vegetables.
We extend a huge thank you to Grace, her classmates, and our wonderful staff for cultivating joy and connection in our community!
