Maplewood Senior Living has an exceptional reputation for offering the very best in senior living. Our communities have beautiful interiors, spacious amenities, customized care, and concierge services but most importantly, it is our people that make Maplewood stand out. Our associates are an integral part of the lives of our residents and their dedication to caring creates compassionate and engaging communities for our aging seniors.
Creating a sense of family within our communities has always been a top priority for Maplewood Senior Living President & CEO, Gregory D. Smith. With beloved members of his family in need of care, Greg set out to change the promise and potential of our later years. That mission began with the 2006 opening of the first Maplewood Senior Living location — a vibrant, loving community in Danbury, Connecticut, where his own grandmother and great-aunt could live their best lives supported by caring professionals. Since those humble beginnings, Maplewood has continued to redefine expectations for the later years of life by continuously expanding and evolving our amenities, services, and care to meet each resident’s personal vision of the good life.
Today, Maplewood operates 15 communities throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, Ohio, and New Jersey and employs over 1700 people in roles that include nursing, dining, housekeeping, concierge, maintenance, and more.
Regardless of the position, all of our associates are trained on our emotion-based HEART philosophy. This philosophy is part of our commitment to bring an exceptional standard of personalized care and compassion to our residents and teaches associates how to bring HEART (Humor, Empathy, Autonomy, Respect & Trust) to all that they do. We recently sat down with a group of associates to ask what they enjoy most about their jobs at Maplewood.
Here are the top three reasons they enjoy working for us.
Meisha Watson, a nursing assistant, told us, “I love my residents, they are a part of me. I consider them my family. I think about them all the time.” She’s not the only one. The dedication and compassion we see and feel from our associates daily are palatable. They work with heart.
Our associates also grow with us. We encourage and support our associates to grow and succeed in their roles. Nick, one of our many success stories, started working as a dishwasher for Maplewood during his high school years. While helping out doing other things in the community, he worked with the maintenance team and soon transitioned into the department as an assistant. Over time, Nick took on a new role as operations coordinator. He is now a project manager working on new community development and the renovation of existing properties.
We know that our culture of learning, in combination with varied career options, offers talented, motivated people an opportunity to challenge themselves and find a satisfying career path. Our associates want to make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families. As a result, they have a job with meaning and respect.
At Maplewood Senior Living, we offer benefits that include health insurance, a 401K plan, vacation, paid time, and more. Our communities have been purposefully designed to create a sense of home to our residents. Associates benefit from working in our beautiful buildings and frequently comment on how much they enjoy working in them.
